Varnish Type
Using a varnish layer protects prints from scratches and abrasion while also providing UV protection and a waterproof coating.
-
No Varnish
- The raw canvas print has no varnish or coating and is not protected against scratches or water, so itβs not recommended for high-traffic areas or bathrooms.
- The canvas has a matte, non-reflective finish with a flat, glare-free look thatβs easy to view from any angle.

-
Matte Varnish
- Appearance: Flat, completely non-reflective, and natural.
- Color and Detail: Softens the overall look and hides surface flaws well, but can slightly mute dark tones and make blacks look flatter or chalky.
- Best for: Fine art photography, textured minimalist work, or bright rooms with harsh overhead lights.
- Drawbacks: Provides less color pop and saturation compared to the other two options.

-
Satin Varnish
- Appearance: A soft, semi-gloss or low-sheen middle ground.
- Color and Detail: Enhances color depth more than matte, but avoids the heavy mirror-like glare of gloss.
- Best for: Versatile everyday spaces, traditional paintings, or multi-window rooms.
- Drawbacks: Offers less color contrast than gloss and a bit more reflection than matte.

Gloss Varnish
- Appearance: High shine, highly reflective, and polished.
- Color and Detail: Deepens dark tones, makes shadows richer, and boosts color vibrancy.
- Best for: Bold, colorful photography or contemporary art hung in rooms with controlled lighting.
- Drawbacks: Creates strong glares and reflections when placed near windows or direct lamps.
